The Logline Is a Diagnostic Tool

Writers treat the logline as marketing. It's better used as a scalpel.

If you cannot state the protagonist, the engine, and the cost in one sentence, the script generally has two competing spines. That's not fatal — but it must be chosen between before the next draft.

Write five loglines for your script, each emphasizing a different character. The one that is hardest to write is often the one the script is actually about.
